I have decided that I will continue blogging. (Please, no applause.) At times, I find it a chore; but, for the most part, I enjoy it immensely (especially when I read comments from readers). Blogging really does create a community for the stay-at-home mom that is not always achievable on a practical level. This blog has also rekindled precious friendships in my life, sustained present ones and given rise to new ones. So, thank you to all of you who have read my writing throughout the past 15 months or so. I am re-committing to Swimming Upstream - although I warn you that it might just undergo another name change: Sweeping my Way to Glory really tickles my fancy and sums up the rhythm of my days. So, not much else to say. Happy New Year and please continue to follow our little life in our small Ontario town - we welcome you. Oh, and yes, the photo is me on my 32
nd birthday (3 days before Christmas). We celebrated at a local restaurant with both sets of grandparents and all four children. I say all four because, as we left, the waitress asked, "You mean the younger two are also yours?" (I wondered to whom she might have thought they belonged as the only other sets of parents with us were all over 60 years of age.) I have now been over thirty for two years and am quite happy to admit to my age. I have no desire to remain forever 29. In fact, I have no problem with achieving another year of life as (and, I now admit) I am a self-diagnosed hypochondriac; consequently, I consider it a significant achievement to have seen another birthday:)

Yeah, for the continued blogging. Perhaps those who read and don't comment might be encouraged to post, it really is enjoyable to get feedback from readers. You may think you have nothing much to contribute but comments on blogs have a way of continuing conversations and creating new ones.
They also give the blogger new material for another post.
wahoo! SOOO glad you've decided to keep it up. I was going to send you threatening emails but I guess that's not necessary anymore. You're making 32 look pretty good, by the way. It must be all the children...
Yay! Perhaps you might even inspire me to keep it up... :)
In all seriousness, it's so true that these blogs develop a sense of community. I don't have many other mom-friends, so I enjoy having someone like you to share some wisdom to this neophyte mother.
Thanks for keeping it up. Happy belated birthday.
I only just now read this post and your last one - I'm glad to hear (read) that you've decided to keep up your blog. I love this glimpse into your life and your family.
I'm still bummed we didn't get to see you guys over Christmas, but I trust you had a lovely time with your parents around.
I knew you could do it!!! I am looking forward to the year ahead. Happy belated birthday and the waitress probably wasn't thinking about who the parents were just that you look too young to have so many children...boast about your age because you sure don't look it and that feels better every year.
Re: "Sweeping My Way to Glory" -
Father Roberto gave a beautiful homily on the 1st, part of which was about doing the smallest things with love. When we unite that love to the love of Christ, then it has saving power - he talked about saving souls through peeling potatoes. I figure if potatoes would do it, sweeping surely would as well. So you can sweep YOUR way to glory, but also help others get there, too.
Hi Elena,
I'm glad to hear that you are going to continue to blog. The stories about your kids are the best (I still chuckle over Ben wanting a cow on his head). It reminds me so much about St. Theresa and seeing grace in the small thing and in smaller people.
If it's any inspiration, I loved the music clips you posted during Advent. I ended up singing the Huron Carol and thought of you and that beautiful version you posted.
Have a happy and Holy new year,
Lindsay
I'm so glad that you are continuing with blogging. I really enjoy reading about the goings-on with your family, and your posts often put a smile on my face. I miss having a house full of little people - I didn't appreciate those years as much as I should have. I'm glad that you share your family with your friends and readers. I love "Sweeping My Way to Glory".
Jaclyn - Catherine Doherty wrote about that very thing frequently...about making our ordinary, everyday activities acts of redemptive love. Puts a whole new spin on homemaking. :)
Jaclyn and Sue, My favourite saying when I was a guest at Madonna House was by a very funny staff worker who always referred to his vocation as "picking potatoes for the kingdom of God". It's all redemptive, thank God.
(He also said that, if your eyes cause you to sin, you should sit on your glasses!)
