White precipitation. I don't even want to use its proper name.
Here we are, not even halfway through October, and there is #$@* on the ground. I realise that it will not last; at least Jacob assures me that it will soon be Fallish again. However, even the spectre of the long, cold and snowy Canadian winter has a way of wearing down the Canadian mother. Thumbs stuffed into mitts; mitts stuffed into sleeves; hats slowly turning around so that both eyes are covered on the youngest; snow in boots; snow on back of neck not covered adequately by jacket...
Yes, I think there must be a plenary indulgence for successfully surviving the Canadian winter with many small children and regular trips to the confessional.
Here is Joseph thoroughly scandalised by the straight jacket into which he has been placed. He kept staring down at those layers and then looking at me accusatorily. I'm sorry, little guy, but we're in this together.

The inside of your front door is incredibly white. That would never happen (well, it wouldn't last long) here.
Also: You kept the kids home from school because it snowed??? That's funny.
I am so sorry. Truly, my heart ached when I read this post. Yes, my phobia of snow runs THAT deep. (You can always come to Texas for a little respite. HOPEFULLY we will soon have the space. Alas, it has been raining here nonstop, so I'm not sure we are doing much better.)
Tsk, tsk. We Protestants turn our back for 400 years or so and you're back at it with the indulgences again.
There must be a patron saint of snow days, the sacred heart of whom you can turn to at times like this. ;)
Nathan
p.s. Thanks for the pictures. They provide a nice attitude adjustment dealing with the bleak and rainy conditions that have beset us. I will keep in mind that it could be much worse!
I like the new blog format!
I saw a photo taken at the Academy this morning and thought it was from somewhere else. Evidently not.
Seeing this post makes me think that I'd better get Jesse's winter gear out soon, since the you-know-what is going to come our way before we know it.
I am sad to see the pictures of snow and the reality that it will be back..I heard people whispering the S word at my doctors office today...my ears, my ears!!!!
Nathan...perhaps it is because you once again have turned your back on us poor Catholics...that is no way to love your neighbor...don't "you people" know the bible;)I am going to start praying for you through the intercession of St. Thomas Moore...who had a connection to the Protestants..he will fix ya!
There are some things about Barry's Bay that I DO NOT miss, this being one of them.
Did I ever tell you about the time it was -50 degrees celsius (that includes the windchill) there? Oh the horror. I wore two winter coats that day, two sweaters, two long-sleeved shirts, two pairs of stockings, sweat pants and THEN a skirt on my way to morning Mass. When I arrived, I was unable to genuflect. I think my expression was something like Joseph in the photo. The injustice, indeed.
Sadly you were not the only one to experience the &*(^...it was also like that here in Calgary. However, it never melted and Liam and I had to shovel....it is supposed to be 20 on Saturday...now that is how Fall should be!
