In honour of our seventh anniversary, I present to you a hope for the future. Apparently, these two have been married 62 years and the gentleman is a nonagenarian. Therefore, I have 55 more years to teach Dave the rudiments (and more) of piano. One qualification: I have to admit that the roles in our marriage are the reverse of this fine couple: I (and I imagine anyone acquainted with my fine husband) am unable to picture Dave (at 32, let alone 90) displaying the same level of exuberance as the husband in the clip.
So, on this anniversary day, I have a question: if you attended our celebration, do you have any favourite memories of the event? Of course, I recall, with some fondness, my two walks up the aisle; but I also remember my father singing, "Don't cry for me Argentina. You know that England looooves to beat you." Our wedding was in the midst of the World Cup of Soccer and our MC had suggested that, instead of the clinking of glasses, a 'love' song would signal a kiss from the bride and groom. Thus, my father's take on Andrew Lloyd Webber's Evita. There are many more memories, but I'll leave them to you.

Happy anniversary! As you know I was not at the wonderful event because we didn't even know each other then - let alone have the bond of sisterhood we have now.I will remember you in prayer this day in a special way because if you bring one another half the joy your family brings to others (that is in our community) you will have a blessed marriage!!!!

well, seven years, four kids, four homes in that time, life has been anything but static for you two.
God bless and many many more years.
Oops, forgot and one dog!
Happy anniversary Elena and Dave!!!
I have lots of memories of the event, not the least of which is your one-point turn and dash back down to the rear of the church when it became apparent that you had walked up too soon. (I still don't know how that happened.)
Oh, and Martha fiddling at the reception. (I think. Did I just make that up?) And me having to leave early because I was sooo sick with a sore throat, and having made the mistake of attending with that idiot of an x-boyfriend. ooops, sorry, those memories are all about me!!!
I do remember that, in spite of being jaded and resentful about my own "love life" up to that point, the absolute JOY I felt in my heart for you because it was so obvious that you had found a wonderful man (and he a wonderful woman, but I was less emotionally invested in his happiness at the time) who was going to bring you such joy. I remember sayin something to this effect to Dave in the receiving line and him just giving me a look like, wow, this woman is crazy, is this the family I married into? just kidding.
Any plans? More importantly, what did the package turn out to be?
Favorite memory Elena from me, Sandy, is actually before the wedding - being able to spend some one on one time with the bride and your mom doing your hair. I loved being able to share in your excitement. Taking pics of you and your dad when he first saw you in your wedding dress - oh good memories.
Cary's favorite memory is the look on David's face when he saw you running away....tooo funny! By the way, at our wedding rehearsal Fr. George reminded us of the importance of waiting for his cue before walking down the aisle, lest the same thing happens:)
We love you guys - have a wonderful anniversary!
Happy Anniversary! I remember the run-back-up-the-aisle. I also remember Dave's expression when he appeared for the second try aisle-walk. He didn't seem to know what had just happened; very calm and deliberate. I suspect that he would have been that way even if he had known what all the laughing was about. Those Valley-genes - nothing can shake them.
We weren't there of course! But I remember knowing this other great couple was getting married the night before our wedding day. Funny how our lives have paralleled each other in lots of ways! So glad we now live in the same little town and get to celebrate our wedding anniversary weekend at the same time as you all. Hope you have a great day!
I remember thinking of you the whole day and I'll admit I was a little upset that I wasn't there...but at the same time I was in a fit of giggles that you were not marrying someone with a last name like Smith!!! ;)
Happy 7 years!!!!
I remember it fondly. Actually I always think of you and Erin on your anniversaries and pray for you and your husbands.
I had never been to a wedding before that, minus my aunt and uncle, but I was 6 and bratty then. So I found the whole thing so moving.
My favourite part was when you and Dave made a prayer of consecration to Our Lady.
Oh and I recall how massive the chicken was at the reception.
Congrats!
I have two favourites, but the first one is rather self-centred. I had spent so much time stying your sisters' hair before the ceremony, that I suddenly discovered it was 15 minutes before the Mass was supposed to start, and my hair was still in rollers. Monique and I finished it as fast as we could, and I bolted to the church. On my arrival, I discovered that my hands - which I hadn't had time to wash - looked like I'd coated them in white glue and let it dry. GROSS. That was the first time I received Communion on the tongue.
The other memory ties into Jenna's point about the chicken. Elena, you'd been very poised all day, but I remember that you were suddenly very emotional and guilt-ridden when the dinner was served, and you calculated just how many chickens had to die to feed your guests.
Happy belated anniversary. :)
